Michael Murray

Michael was admitted to the profession in 2012 and called to the Bar in 2024. Prior to coming to the Bar, Michael practised for over a decade in both the private and pro bono sectors, maintaining an extensive civil and administrative law practice. He also practised in criminal and family law during his career as a solicitor.

Michael has extensive experience in inquiries and inquests, having acted in a range of complex and high-profile inquests in Queensland for parties, witnesses, and other persons of interest.

Michael has lectured in International Law, Human Rights Law, and Clinical Legal Studies at James Cook University. He is regularly called upon to present and publish in Queensland and Australia on his areas of practice. He is a well-respected practitioner in North Queensland and has been the President of the Townsville District Law Association and the North Queensland Law Association. In 2021, his work was recognised by the Queensland Law Society when he was awarded the Queensland Emerging Leader Award.

Michael serves as a Board Member of Centacare North Queensland, Townsville Community Law Inc., and the North Queensland Law Association. He is a member of the Bar Association of Queensland’s Access to Justice Committee and Regional Issues Committee.

Michael has a broad trial practice in both Federal & State jurisdictions. He regularly appears led and unled in superior courts. His primary areas of practice are:

  • Civil & commercial litigation

  • Family law, domestic and family violence and child protection law

  • Criminal law

  • Coronial inquests & commissions of inquiry
